  1. July 1, 2019

    She came into my life

Maia was born on July 1, 2019, and came into my life when she was barely two months old. She was the only girl in a litter of three puppies.

Although my siblings suggested choosing a boy, I felt a special connection with her from day one.

  2. From day one

    She chose me

I always say I did not choose Maia; she chose me to be her mom. I will be grateful for that all my life. ♡

  3. Seven years together

    A heart of gold

We have now spent seven years together, full of adventures, mischief, lessons, and so much love. Behind her big, sometimes intimidating appearance is a dog with a heart of gold.

Maia is affectionate, territorial, funny, and very much her own character. She loves massages, cuddles, and sleeping belly-up, but also values her space!

  4. What she loves most

    Balls, water, and walks

She adores balls, playing with water, walks, and of course food. She is a bottomless pit, though our big girl is now on a strict diet.

  5. The pack

    Pepa, Tami, and Maia

At home she lives with her two sisters: Pepa, 12, the boss of the pack, and Tami, 4, the youngest. Both have a funny habit of going to Maia to have their heads licked, and Maia patiently spoils them.

Although Pepa often barks at Maia, when Maia spent two nights at the vet, Pepa searched the house for her. Love shows itself in many ways. ♡ And a fun fact: all three are Cancers!

  6. What she teaches me

    Strength and kindness together

I have always believed our pets come into our lives with a purpose. Maia came to teach me patience, to trust that God's timing is perfect, and to find hope even in difficult moments. To me, she embodies both strength and kindness.

We have had to pause her favorite walks and games while we care for her hips and support her recovery. It has not been easy, but Maia keeps teaching me to appreciate small improvements and never give up.

She is my motivation to keep going despite the difficulties. And if she still wants to share many more years with me, I will be here doing everything I can so we can keep sharing this life together.

With all my love, her mom, Ari. ♡

Oct 27: we got to go out for a little while, her tail wagging the whole time
  1. September 23, 2026

    Something changed in her steps

It all began on September 23, 2026, when Maia suddenly stopped walking normally. Seeing her like that was distressing: until then, she had enjoyed her walks and games as usual.

We took her to the vet the following day. She was initially prescribed anti-inflammatory medication.

  2. September 30, 2026

    The first answers

X-rays taken on September 30 showed problems with her spine and right hip. We were advised to begin therapy and help her lose weight.

When we did not see the improvements we had hoped for, we sought a second opinion from an orthopedic and neurology specialist.

  3. October 12, 2026

    A second opinion

On October 12, a CT scan revealed several herniated discs and a lesion in the head of her right femur.

At first, there was concern about a possible tumor, although the specialist later considered avascular necrosis a possibility. Surgery was proposed to address the problems.

  4. October 13, 2026

    A change of plans

On October 13, however, Maia's blood pressure dropped during preparation for anesthesia, and the veterinary team cancelled the surgery for safety.

  5. October 14, 2026

    First, make her stronger

Her cardiac assessment the next day was reassuring. The specialist recommended a change of plan: first help her lose weight, strengthen her left hind leg, and continue rehabilitation before reconsidering surgery.

  6. Today

One little step at a time

Today, we are focused on her recovery. ♡ Maia has started physiotherapy, initially aimed at relieving pain and inflammation. We also follow the prescribed home care and closely monitor her progress.

We have already begun to notice small improvements that bring us joy!

  7. What's next

    Moving forward, together ♡

There is still a journey ahead, with therapy, checkups, and further examinations to decide on the next steps. We will share every update here.

That's why Todos por Maia ♡ was created: to help cover part of the expenses we have already incurred, continue funding her rehabilitation, and prepare for any treatments she may need in the future.

We do not know exactly what lies ahead, but we do know we want to support her with all our love, patience, and hope. Thank you for being part of her recovery.

Every helping paw makes a difference. ♡

Every act of love counts
